Before using this medication, l your doctor or pharmacist your medical history, especially of: breathing problems, liver problems, recent heart attack, problems urinating (such as due to enlarged prostate ), overactive thyroid ( hyperthyroidism ), personal or family history of glaucoma (angle-closure type), personal or family history of mental/mood conditions (such as bipolar disorder, psychosis ), family history of suicide, seizures, conditions that may increase your risk of seizures (such as other brain disease, alcohol withdrawal ).
If it is near the time of the next dose, skip themissed dose and resume your usual dosing schedule.
Aventyl: Nortriptyline belongs to the group of medications known as tricylic antidepressants. It is used to treat depression. It works in the central nervous system.
Stopping the medication: Stopping treatment suddenly after prolonged therapy may produce nausea, headache, and a general feeling of being unwell. These symptoms do not mean that you are addicted to the medication; they mean that your body has become accustomed to the medication. If you are thinking of stopping the medication, check with your doctor first. Your doctor may want you to decrease the dose of the medication gradually when it is time to stop taking nortriptyline.
